I've been into horror movies recently. Not really horror, the main characters just don't end up together. How do people rewatch these? I don't have the guts to.
Lest I digress…
I got this from the movie ‘all the bright places’. This was from Virginia woolf.
‘I feel a thousand capacities spring up in me’.
The quote woke something in me. I remembered all the times I thought I couldn't do something, and I ended up doing them excellently. We all truly have a thousand capacities in us, even if we don't think so.
We limit ourselves to what is expected, or what the voices in our heads tell us. We voluntarily become slaves to our negative thoughts.
We tell ourselves, ‘I can't possibly live without so and so’ , ‘I couldn't do this even if I tried my hardest’. What are the odds that you can't?
If you were looking for a sign, then this is it. At least you tried.
Violet thought she couldn't laugh again because she lost her sister. Correction, she thought she didn't deserve to. Life was never going to be the same without her best friend, and she didn't know if she could live with it. She didn't know if she could get over this grief.
Theodore came crashing into her (literally) and thought her about the many colours painted around grief. She could live, laugh, and be happy without her sister. Her death would always linger, but she was going to be fine.
She had a thousand capacities in her, even if she didn't think so, and he made it up to himself to show her just how much of it she had in her.
Remember,
whether it is grief, love, loss,or change, we all have a thousand capacities in us to navigate it..
In the Qur'an it is said that Allah SWT does not test a soul beyond what it can bear but when the tests come, we always doubt our strength. This is a beautiful reminder that the One who tests us know how strong we are and none of the tests can break us unless we give in to our insecurity that tells us we are weak. I love that you watched this show and took something real from it, I do that with a lot of the things I read and watch, digest and internalise them. Thanks sm for sharing your perspective!
This is inspiring!
